Canada’s Music Express is a Crowd Pleaser
August 5, 2000
The Colonist
Chapala, Mexico
Sunday, July 30 a crowd of 400+ enthusiastic supporters of the Lakeside School for the Deaf and big band music greeted the Music Express assembly of 36 musicians and vocalists at the Hotel Real de Chapala. The school picked up an estimated 70,000 pesos from the sale of tickets, bar sales and lottery tickets.
The music was all that it was advertised to be, with some die-hard enthusiasts dancing under the stars till the last note faded away at midnight. The organizers of the event are to be commended for a job well done. The story of the success of the event is told in the happy faces of those attending.
Music Express also played four other concerts in Guadaljara. Saturday, the show band entertained some 300 people at the city’s Chamber of Commerce earning some $45,000 pesos in support of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church. Monday, Music Express played a free gospel music concert at the Temple Expiatorio. Tuesday, August 1, the show band played a benefit for MAMA, an organization devoted to helping children living on the street, with a sold-out jazz concert at the Club de Industriales earning about $35,000 pesos. Wednesday a free concert at the Universidad Pan Americana was standing–room only.
Jalisco’s foreign community sends Canada’s Music Express a hearty thank you for an excellent beginning to this band’s first tour of Mexico and the band members’ generous spirit, professionalism and hard work in support of local charities.
